By now you will all be aware of
the tsunami that caused such devastation recently.
We won't waste your time by going into the details
of the terrible loss of life that this brought
about - you will have heard of this
already.
At this time over
UK£1,000,000,000 has been committed by the
international community for the recovery of this
region. We must stress that this money is purely
for human assistance - it has no allowance for the
thousands of domestic animals including cats and
dogs displaced by this
disaster.
Of course the first concern of
all people will be the welfare of the survivors of
this catastrophe.
The welfare of domestic animals
has however not been addressed by the
international community funding, hence the reason
for this appeal.
Some animal organisations have
apparently sent people into this region to assess
the situation, although due to the holiday period
have not been able to give us an update on the
current situation as they perceive it. Our sister
organisation, Sirius GAO has however been
approached by shelters in India and Phuket for
whom the situation is desperate. In some cases
they literally have no food or
clean water for the dogs and cats in their
care. This situation will certainly get worse over
the coming weeks.
At ITD we know that our supporters are
warm-hearted. Many of you will probably have
already contributed to the charities that are
concerned with the effects on the human population
in this area. The animals however are in need of
your help as well.
We have never asked you for money before,
but we do so now without reservation. A couple of
pounds or dollars could mean the difference
between life and death for these animals who have
nowhere else to turn.
All donations received will be sent to
animal shelters in the tsunami hit region.
Sirius GAO is a fully registered charity in
New Zealand.
