Dear friends
So
often when we are protesting at the Asian
"tradition" of eating dog and cat meat, they reply
with the argument "But you eat dogs in the
West". The unacceptable fact is that,
where Switzerland is concerned, this is
true!
ITD is pleased to have been able to assist
our colleagues at Sirius Global Animal
Organisation in preparing their campaign to end
this abomination in our own back-yard. Please,
PLEASE give this campaign your support. The
thought of dogs being killed for their flesh in a
supposedly civilised European country defies
belief.
On
a somewhat brighter note, we are pleased to be
able to report that New York
State Governor George Pataki
has finally passed
legislation that will outlaw the sale of hair,
fur, skin, or flesh of dogs and cats, and the
slaughter of these animals for human consumption.
Penalties for individuals are a fine of up to
$1000, with fines of up to $25000 for commercial
operations. This law comes into effect tomorrow
(23rd January
2003).
Such a law was of course not
needed until station WB11 reported on 20th
November 2001 that Korean immigrants were killing
and eating dogs in New
York.
Thanks George, but too little,
too late. Why did it take so long to pass this
legislation? And can we now expect to see police
raids on such dog farms as revealed on WB11's
reports?
